He was instrumental in the establishment of the World Health Professions Alliance, an alliance between the World Medical Association, International Council of Nurses (ICN) and the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). He is a Fellow of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, the Romanian Academy of Medical Science and was awarded Life Membership of the International Federation of Medical Student Associations (IFMSA).
